Risks of cheap air conditioning
8 March 2023Condensate Drains:
All refrigerated air conditioning systems condense water from the indoor and outdoor units.
Water will come from the indoor unit on the Cooling cycle and from the outdoor unit on the Heating cycle. Water does not run up hill, therefore it is imperative the drains be installed correctly the consequences can be water coming through the ceiling with a ducted system or dripping down the interior walls from a Hi wall split system.
Blocked drains can give the same results, therefore a general service on a regular basis can prevent building and contents damage.
Coil Clean:
The purpose of the air conditioner filter is to prevent household fluff and dander from blocking up the indoor unit coil. As refrigerated air conditioners condensate, the combination of debris and moisture on the coil can cause the coil to generate a build-up of mould and dirt. The dirty coil can reduce the performance and efficiency of the system as well as putting unnecessary strain on the fan motors and compressor resulting in costly and inconvenient repairs.
Warranty Check before warranty Expires:
Don’t wait until your air conditioner warranty expires to have your unit serviced, our qualified tradies are skilled in detecting faults that are potentially covered under the manufacturer warranty. It makes sense to have your air conditioner serviced before the manufacturer warranty expires or the cost may fall on you!!
Test Kit:
Is your family or staff breathing in harmful mould and bacteria?
We can test the concentration of mould within your required space, giving you peace of mind and a healthy and safe family or workplace environment.
Upgrade Zoning System:
With technology constantly changing and energy efficiency and the forefront of mind, up dating zone motors and controls can potentially give you better control of air balancing and individual room temperature, whilst improving the energy efficiency of the system.
Faulty Zone Motors:
Zone motors are attached to a damper blade within the ducting in the roof space. The zone motor controls the airflow to the designated outlet and is hard wired to the wall mounted zone controller. Zone motors can be 24v or 240v, drive open/drive close, spring return, variable or on/off and so on. It is important to replace the zone motor with the same motor that is existing (if available) to avoid further issues with wiring and compatibility with the controller.
Upgrade Control Systems:
Is your air conditioner or zone control panel starting to look outdated? Depending on compatibility, it may be possible to replace your old unsightly controls with a new modern option. If gadgets are your thing, there are control systems that offer entire home automation or if basic is more your speed, there are control systems to suit all your needs and requirements.
Duct:
Did you know that with inferior quality air conditioning ducting, you can lose up to 10 degrees by the time the air reaches the room in heat gain/heat loss alone?! Replace your old leaky, perished duct with Energy Smart R1.5 thermal rated ducting and dramatically reduce your running costs and increase the efficiency of your current system.
Wall Split Performance:
Is your Wall split air conditioning system under performing?
This can be a result of a number of issues, dirty filter, refrigerant loss, blocked coil, outdoor unit air circulation, restriction, electrical problems, unit under sized and the list goes on. Arrange a diagnostic service call with one of our qualified, skilled technicians to find out exactly what is going on!
Ducted System Performance:
Is your Ducted system under performing?
This can be a result of a number of issues, dirty filter, refrigerant loss, blocked coil, outdoor unit air circulation, restriction, electrical problems, unit under sized, inefficient ducting, faulty zone motors, under sized return air and the list goes on. Arrange a diagnostic service call with one of our qualified, skilled technicians to find out exactly what is going on!
Outlets:
Morphett Air chooses to use Ductair’s Powder-Coated Aluminium multi-directional outlets. With all other fittings between the unit and the ceiling outlet being metal and not inferior plastic, why would you then connect a plastic outlet? It makes sense that the ceiling outlet
itself should also be a sturdy, premium aluminium product. The benefits over the inferior plastic are that plastic outlets tend to creak and crack due to expansion and contraction as they warm up and cool down which can be annoyingly frustrating, particularly in the bedroom
while you’re trying to sleep! Plastic outlets tend to discolour or turn an unsightly yellow colour over time.
Return Air:
The Return Air is a grille and filter, generally located in the ceiling but can sometimes be located in a wall. The return air is the ducted unit air intake. Air is sucked through the grille and filter into the indoor fan unit located in the roof space, conditioned and then expelled through the outlets.
Washable Filter Media Replacement:
The purpose of the return air filter is to prevent dust and fluff from blocking up the indoor fan coil. A blocked fancoil may result in mould build up, inefficiency and costly preventable repairs.
The life of the filter media in your return air grill depends on the quality of the material and how you look after it. The best way to clean the filter and extend the life of the material, is to wash the filter outdoors with the hose. Some prefer to use the vacuum, however over time the vacuum tends to damage the fabric and reduce the life of the filter. If a return air grille is undersized, you will dramatically increase the noise levels, resulting in whistling. Noise can also be caused by a dirty filter.
How often do the filters need to be cleaned?
We recommend the return air filters in your air conditioner be cleaned every 3 months.
DNA filers (Disposable):
Filtration plays an important role in keeping indoor air pollution to a minimum. Having the right filter will reduce problems caused by pollen, viruses, mould, pets, dust mites, bacteria, asthma and related issues. Ductair DNA filter will proved indoor air quality resulting in the satisfaction of having clan air in every room. Breathing indoor air pollution can often trigger allergy, asthma and hay fever symptoms. As house dust, mould virus carriers and pollen are captured by the Ductair Natural Air (DNA) filter, we generally breathe easier and have fewer symptoms as a result. Indoor Air Quality is important, therefore having a high quality air filter installed in a well maintained ducted air conditioning system can result in a cleaner, healthier indoor environment.
Replacement Parts:
There are a few “generic” parts in an air conditioning system.
Given the number of difference brands on the market it is unlikely a technician would carry the parts on board, therefore it is necessary for the technician to locate the parts (if available) and provide a written quotation to replace the parts including labour. Parts are then ordered and a date will be arranged to install once the parts become available.
Evaporative:
Easy Dose:
The Easy-Dose Mini cartridge is designed for evaporative coolers for effective control of algae bacteria, fungi and legionella. The Easy Dose Mini cartridge has been tailored for use in evaporative coolers with its size and dosing rates specifically suited for small water volumes up to 300 litres. When the cartridges are 90% spent, they float to the surface indicating the system needs further treatment.
Pads:
By passing outdoor air over water saturated pads, the water in the pads evaporate, reducing the air temperature by approximately 10 degrees C before it is directed by the fan to the supply air outlets into the home.
For optimal performance your Evaporative cooler filter pads should be changed every few years.
